By formalizing GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition just a month before its release, Rockstar games did not particularly reassure the players. The videos showing a graphic evolution making the experience more pleasing to the eye while retaining its old-world charm had divided, but a good part of the community was still intrigued at the idea of being able to rediscover Grand Theft Auto III, Vice city and San Andreas in a new light.
It is on November 11 that the Definitive Edition launched on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and Switch, with a bang. Already, the quality does not seem at all at the rendezvous: flashing textures, blinding rain effects, invisible bridges, crazy camera, modernization of very questionable faces and bodies, bugs galore have been reported by players, evidenced by these few tweets listed by PC Gamer. The issues run across all platforms and make the experience almost unplayable for some.
You’ll find plenty of general spelling errors. I think they used an automated program to resize and clean up textures. The app seems to mistake “D” for “O” a lot.

It is in this context that the Rockstar Games Launcher crashed completely this Thursday evening, preventing access to the entire catalog of the publisher, and therefore to the PC version of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. It is not clear whether this crash is due to server overload or intentional manipulation of Rockstar to correct some concerns, but the application launcher came back from beyond the grave last night … without GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. The official reason is that the publisher wants remove “files unintentionally included in these versions” : no Hot Coffee in sight this time, but the dataminers still discovered developer comments in the code, sometimes very familiar, and especially songs for which the licenses were not renewed for the Definitive Edition, simply hidden by a script. There is always that, At this time, the PC version of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is therefore neither purchasable nor playable..

So it’s a little disaster that has just happened for Rockstar games, which has just disappointed many of its fans with this failed launch. Hopefully some updates raise the bar, although as always we could expect better out of the box. GTA V – Premium Edition is otherwise available from € 19.99 on Amazon.com.
